Although this figure represents a 10.26% decrease compared to the previous year, it still demonstrates the enduring appeal of the county as a tourist destination.
In December, Holmes Beach emerged as the top contributor to the county’s tourism tax collections on Anna Maria Island, generating $497,782, which accounts for approximately 21.55% of the total revenue. Anna Maria and Bradenton Beach also made substantial contributions, bringing in $257,715 and $112,482, respectively.
The tax levied on overnight accommodations of six months or less is collected by resort owners, landlords, and property managers. The funds collected are an essential source of revenue for the county, with unincorporated Manatee County accounting for 44.09% of the total collections in December.
Alongside this, other areas in the county also made notable contributions. Bradenton generated $244,141, Longboat Key contributed $171,222, and Palmetto generated $8,426 in tourism tax revenue.
After deducting the 3% collection fee, the net collection for December 2023 stood at $2,240,222. These funds will be utilized to support various tourism-related initiatives, including the upkeep of crucial infrastructure such as the Anna Maria City Pier and beach renourishment projects. Additionally, they will also support local tourism organizations like the Bradenton Area Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Bradenton Area Convention Center.
Despite a slight decline compared to the previous year, the tourism tax revenues generated in December 2023 highlight the enduring appeal of Manatee County as a desirable vacation destination. The county’s dedication to maintaining its tourism industry and supporting related projects ensures continued growth and prosperity in the years to come.
